The municipal market of Denia was built in 1955, in the centre of the city, in Calle Magallanes, an easily accessible central area, parallel to Marques de Campo street.
It is an extensive food market selling seafood, meat, fruit and vegetables, frozen foods, baked goods and even flowers. This is a great opportunity to get your hands on the products that make up Dénia’s gastronomy. You can also sit down in one of the cafés or bars inside.
The municipal market of Denia is a meeting place for traders and passers-by. It is a charming place where you can get advice from those who work there and do everything with their own hands.
Structure of the municipal market of Denia
The municipal market of Denia is a covered market inside an air-conditioned building, so even though it can get a little crowded at times, you won’t suffer from the heat, even in the middle of summer. The current municipal market of Denia has two different warehouses:
Main hall
In the main hall, where the main entrance is located, we find the shops and stalls dedicated to the sale of fruit and vegetables, the bakery, the butcher’s shop, the salted fish, the restaurants and the florist’s shop. This nave is structured in three aisles, one in the centre and one on each side.
Small hall
The rest of the stalls dedicated exclusively to the sale of fish are located in the small aisle. This separation is intended to differentiate this type of product, which requires a different layout, as well as a drainage system, since ice and water are used to clean the stall.
Opening hours
The municipal market of Denia opens its doors every day, from Monday to Saturday, from 8 am to 3 pm. Going to the market in Denia is an experience at any time of day, as you can smell the freshness of the products first thing in the morning or enjoy a delicious lunch in one of the bars.
Fruit and vegetable Fridays at the Denia municipal market
On Fridays, the municipal market of Denia organizes a fruit and vegetable market in Calle La Via, where traders from all over the region come, thus expanding the offer of this type of product. In the past, this market was located in the vicinity of the municipal market itself, but due to covid’s measures, it has been moved to Via La Via where there is more space, which facilitates the circulation and logistics of setting up and dismantling the market.
The Friday fruit and vegetable schedule has the same opening hours as the municipal market, from 8:00 to 15:00.
Every year, events such as the “Nit de la LLum” or the “Denia Red Prawn Creative Competition” take place at the municipal market of Denia, making this place in Denia all the more attractive.
Parking at the municipal market of Denia
Parking at the municipal market of Denia is limited, as it is centrally located and there are many pedestrian streets and blue parking zones where you have to validate an hourly ticket in order to park without being punished.
However, there is a free car park on the other side of the Denia Castle tunnel, about 10 minutes’ walk from the municipal market. To find out where the car park is, click here.
